Things I wish I'd known when I graduated college:
It's hard to believe it's been a little over three years since I graduated college! The time really does fly, and as I sit reflecting on how much has changed in these three years, there are a lot of things that I wish I'd known right out of college. And given the fact that there are now thousands of college grads on the loose, I thought I'd share some of those things with y'all -- in hopes of sparing y'all some of the lessons I had to learn the hard way.
- you may not get your dream job right away... and you'll be okay
- the job you end up with may not be what you want to do at all!
- but there are things to be learned from every experience
- your salary may not be all that you hoped for
- before you accept an job with an hourly pay, calculate how much that will total out annually.
- you don't have to say yes to the first job you're offered
- you can go anywhere you want! (in most cases)
- your friendships will look totally different now
- making new friends may be difficult, but just give it time
- yes! budgets are important. you need to make one and stick to it
All in all, these last three years have been a whirlwind of emotions -- high hopes met with difficult realities, new experiences and the discovery of God's goodness in the midst of darkness.
I'm hoping that your transitional times are a lot smoother than mine were.
Anyone else have any wisdom they want to share about post-grad life?
listening to: a lot of county music lately. One of my new favorite song is "Biscuits" by Kacey Musgraves. i liked this one so much that I painted the lyrics on a canvas for our new house. I also like "Little Toy Guns" by Carrie Underwood.
hoping: that these 100 degree days will be over soon and we can go back to the slightly more comfortable 90 degree summer days.
learning: to adapt to my new work schedule. I used to work 3 PM to Midnight, but about two months ago I was moved to the morning show. So now I work 3 AM to Noon. It's taken some time but I think I'm starting to get used to the new schedule and I love that I have weekends off again. I also love that I get to see the sun come up most days!
planning: the big move in t-minus 3 days! I've got lists coming out of my ears of all the things I need to get done between now and then... hopefully they will all get done.
feeling: a little anxious about moving, but mostly I'm just ready to be in my new house.
slacking: in my running routine. I'm not sure if I've shared the news, but I'm running a half- marathon in November. I just need to get back to my running schedule.
eating: a bunch of crap! I'm trying to finish off most of my food before we move and in doing so I've found myself at Chic-fil-A more mornings than I'd care to truthfully tell. Come July, I want to get back to eat well.
What are y'all up to this month?
Can we all agree that April was not one of my best blogging months?
Good, I'm glad we got that one out of the way. It's a new month and time to reflect on how my goals for April went as well as what I want to work on this month. So here's last month's goal list:
+fitness: running goals to 4 times a week and weight training. I was doing pretty good at this and then I had one busy week that threw off my routine!
+friendships: I want to continue to build new friendships. Nope!
+no sweets: I really want to see how long I can go without eating unhealthy sweets. haha, i'm not making this goal ever again. I cheated three times. but it did help me to see that I don't NEED sweets.
+budget: try the cash system. I also didn't do the cash system because I found Mint.com. You can link it to your bank account and they will tell you when you're getting close to going over your budget.
+reading: I want to finish three books by the end of the month. Hahahaha, that was a funny joke!
+television: cut back on television. I did do this one and it's been so nice to not spend my days off sitting in front of the tv!
Now on the my goals for this month:
=blog= at least three times a week. Something I clearly failed to do last month!
=fitness= get back into running 4 times a week. I'm also going to try to make 4 miles my minimum distance.
=celebrate= May is my blog-iversary and I want to celebrate in some way, it's the first time any blog of mine has lasted this long by far! Any suggestions as to what you'd like to see here?
=keep up budget= I just want to continue to be wise with my money and find even more ways to save. As I find them, I'll be sure to share them!
