Day 14|When did you start blogging and why?
My very first blog was in 2011, my first summer as a counselor at Eagle Lake Camps. I thought it'd be a great way to document my time on the mountain while giving friends and family the opportunity to read about what was going on in my life. It did not go so well and lasted all of three months before it was deleted.
I then started another one the next summer, determined to make that one last. Well I did much better in keeping it up, but I was in a transition from Eagle Lake to Augusta and I found myself neglecting it so I stopped. It still exists and I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it. I later started another blog and it too met the same neglected fate as the first. Alas, I gave up blogging for a while.
Until, this past May. I had been thinking of starting a blog for a few months and I decided it was time to dive in. This blog felt different, in many ways, from the three blogs before it. I had planned things such as a Facebook Page and created a Twitter account and even tried to make categories for each day of the week.
There were several things that prompted this blog. For one, I really wanted a place to share my thoughts and experiences of life --in a place other than a Facebook status. And despite the failed blogging attempts, I really love writing and wanted a place that I would feel comfortable to do so consistently.
So why did this blog stick while the others were long gone by this time? I think it's because of where I am in my life. True, my life is crazy, but there's much more stability now than there was in the past. I also feel like I've learned more about myself in the years since I graduated college; and the more I've learned about who I am, the more I've been able to share my life with others.
I've truly loved this blog and the many learning experiences it's provided me with as I've gotten to know other bloggers and read about their experiences.
How did you get started doing what you love?
